Mindflow Academy founder Derrick Mason has rebuilt his life – twice.
Derrick spent more than 30 years in and out of prison, but after he was released for the final time, he realised things had to change. Or more accurately, he realised he had to change.
He began working with people in prisons and communities, supporting individuals who faced challenges including addiction, autism and homelessness.
He then experienced homelessness himself, and after getting back on his feet, managed to transform his life once more. This time, he founded Mindflow Academy to continue helping others through teaching, mentoring and practical programmes.
Today, Derrick is expanding Mindflow Academy’s work with prisons and community organisations, helping people change the way they think, respond and move forward.
In this honest and thought-provoking session, Derrick will explore how one shift in perspective can completely change your life.
Drawing on his own journey through prison, homelessness and recovery, Derrick shares the insight that transformed the way he saw himself and the world around him. He realised that rather than changing his circumstances first, the most important thing was changing how he responded to them.
Through powerful personal stories, Derrick will explore how this change affected every part of his life – from the opportunities he was given in prison to the work he went on to do supporting others.
The session will get you thinking differently about resilience, responsibility and what’s really possible when we stop believing our circumstances define us. You’ll leave with a fresh perspective on how we respond to setbacks, why lasting change starts from within, and how thinking differently can unlock new possibilities both personally and professionally.
